The Coalition's mission is to make RVA the healthiest region in the country. The Coalition provides a platform that gives consumer focused merchants a free, ongoing opportunity to build their brand by rewarding healthy family activity with strategic product discounts that increase customer loyalty and sales volumes.

The Coalition membership includes participation in the 5210 Healthy Points Challenge, a fun, evidence based, way to bring the entire family together in pursuit of a terrific cause, ongoing health and well being. As part of the Challenge, the family receives multiple product and service discounts from merchants througout RVA for the same healthy activity, further motivating families to live healthier lifestyles.

 Why the Coalition?

Despite lifestyle changes that continue to fuel an obesity epidemic that threatens both the personal and financial well - being of the entire nation, the current healthcare business model pays for disease treatment (the result) but not for prevention (the solution). This business model doesn’t make sense or cents as witnessed by the exceedingly high rate of preventable chronic diseases and healthcare costs.

One third of all children born in 2000 or later will suffer from diabetes at some point in their lives; many will face chronic obesity related health problems including heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer, liver disease, or asthma. As a result, this is the first generation where the life expectancy of our children is shorter than their parents.

In addition to the personal suffering, we spend approximately $160 billion annually on obesity related medical cost. The expense is expected to double by as early as 2018. From the Centers for Disease Control; more than 75% of health care costs in the United States are attributed to preventable chronic conditions with inactivity currently driving 40% of that cost. New, innovative solutions that more effectively increase the healthy activity levels of US families are critical as a significant step in developing a healthier nation. How critical? According to the Bipartisan Policy Center, the obesity epidemic in the US will eventually bankrupt the nation if left unchecked!

The NewWayFityness solution is to develop the RVA coalition into a scalable, financially sustainable operation that will be duplicated in additional regions throughout the country.
